Black-Eyed Susan
you make us nervous
because we're very aware
that you do not care
Ah, Black-Eyed Susan
what don't you believe in?
"no" is always
easier than "yes"

Black-Eyed Susan
you must insist
you are a born-again atheist
oh ra ra ra
Ah, heavy rings on
bitten fingers
Black-Eyed Susan sometimes
shakes to break
so... watch it
Black-Eyed Susan
rest and do nothing
'cause it's the only thing
that you do quite well
Ah, Black-Eyed Susan
rest and do nothing
'cause it's the only thing
that you do quite well
Ah, Black-Eyed Susan
rest and do nothing
'cause it's the only thing
that you do quite well
Ah, Black-Eyed Susan
please remember:
we were the first
we were the first

Sundry
Rumor has it that Siouxsie Sioux is "Black-Eyed Susan". And if it's not true, well, she should be!

Comtesse Review (as if you care)
"Black-Eyed Susan" is a frustrating song. The first 1:10 and the last minute are excellent, but in between there is two minutes of tuneless nonsense. It seems that Morrissey had only written three verses and could not figure out what to do for a chorus, and the band was at a complete loss as well, so they just filled the middle of the song with a bunch of random notes, backwards tape loops, and percussion. Of course, the "aural experiment" just completely destroys the momentum of the song, thus turning a fun, catchy pop song into Morrissey's own personal "Revolution 9". Such a shame...
